The focus was on an album of an unknown Leningrad family of the 1920s-1940s. It contains professional and amateur photos in which there are no marks or signatures. The composition of amateur frames made in the interior and in the open air, the choice of lighting and other details suggest that the owners and creators of the album were quite familiar with the technique of photographing and retouching.
The album is typical of its time and reflects a number of characteristic features of the philistine life of the NEP epoch and later times.
Some of the photos were taken in the interiors of the Leningrad apartment; on the summer cottage; in Peterhof and in the central part of Leningrad: in the Summer Garden, on the Griboyedov Canal at the Lion's Bridge and on the embankments of the Neva. It is safe to say that for the family of Leningraders who compiled the album, the places of their residence and walks were important, because in several pictures divided by the time of creation, the same landscapes can be found, for example, the square at the Copper Horseman or shooting the same suburban area.
In the years after the First World War, the silhouette of women's clothing changed dramatically - by 1924, the length of skirts was noticeably reduced, the bodice disappeared, the style of dresses was simplified, the hair became shorter. The new fashion is based on geometric principles: the costume is clearly divided into two parts, the bodice and the skirt. By 1928, the skirt barely covered his knees. For the women's clothing of the time, the waistline was lowered to the level of the hips, a deep neckline of the bodice, and bare arms. The complement to the dress was a bonnet with a wide brim or a bell hat that completely covers the hair. The ideal is a woman with a semi-handsome figure - tall, slim, without pronounced hips and breasts. His incarnation was actress Greta Garbo.
Dresses girls silhouette fully meet the fashion trends of the first half of the 1920s. Thus, the earliest portraits in the album can be dated to the first half of the 1920s, that is, the epoch of the NEP.
Confirmation that the earliest photos in the album were taken in 1923-1925, is also men's clothing.
It is rather difficult to determine the type of activity of a man - there are abacus, papers, ink in the room on his desk. Perhaps he was a bookkeeper, an accountant, or an economist who did some of the work at home.
The occupation of a woman could not be established. It can be argued that she was familiar with photographing, since some of the pictures taken by the man in the apartment and in the open air were clearly made by her, and also, probably, she played the guitar.
